The Survivor Foundation and the Knowles Family Give Hope to Couple Affected by Hurricane Ike by Donating House of Dereon Media Center and Securing Services for Their Wedding
HOUSTON, Oct 09, 2008 (BUSINESS WIRE) — The Survivor Foundation, a not-for-profit organization founded by Beyonce, Tina and Mathew Knowles, Kelly Rowland and Solange Knowles, has stepped in to assist a couple devastated by the effects of Hurricane Ike. Two wedding facilities in the Houston area went bankrupt after the Hurricane Ike and left thousands of brides and grooms with nowhere to have their wedding. Due to the collapse of the Tuscan Villa venue, the couple, Nathan Rhodes and Ronda Lotter, were faced with having to cancel their wedding and the loss of thousands of dollars from deposits. The Survivor Foundation has donated the House of Dereon Media Center for Ronda and Nathan’s wedding and reception, which will be the first wedding ever held there.
“The Survivor Foundation was created to help individuals rise above devastating circumstances and natural disasters such as Hurricane Ike. When we saw this story we knew we could help this couple in their moment of crisis to still have their dream wedding,” said Tina Knowles, President and Director of the Survivor Foundation. Over the past few years, the Survivor Foundation has donated over two and a half million dollars just in the Houston area alone. Initiatives with The Knowles-Rowland Center, Temenos Place Apartments, St. John’s Church, Houston Habitat for Humanity, the Beyonce World Tour Food Drives, Music World Cares, and Katrina Relief are just a few of the community efforts of the foundation with Beyonce being the major contributor.

Ronda and Nathan met October 6, 2005, at a karaoke event. Nathan was so smitten with Ronda he tried to impress her by singing “Piano Man” and it must have worked because they have been together ever since, and despite the setback from Hurricane Ike, with the help of a lot of caring and generous supporters, they are able to go forward with their dream wedding on October 10, 2008 at the House of Dereon!

Hurricane Update
This post is mostly for current clients.
Hello Everyone – hope this finds you all well. I am happy to report no damage to my home or studio. I have gotten a few calls from some of you checking up on me and to make sure everything didn’t get blown away! Thank goodness, all was well and no precious memories (or tapes) were lost. Of course it was a big inconvenience to us all. I ended up in Dallas for about 10 days. I recently got power and started to put my studio back together as I had unplugged numerous devices, cables, wires, plugs, hard drives and safeguarded video tapes. I was glad I did as it could have been worse. Unfortunately the biggest inconvenience for me was that this put me a little over two weeks behind. So anyone who was expecting any videos, tape transfers or copies soon, just bare with me a little longer.
Also, if there is anybody that hasn’t gotten their Musical Selections CDs for their videos for weddings prior to this Summer, then they should be received shortly.
Any of my current or past clients that were unfortunate to sustain any major damages to their property and need any supporting video footage or photos for a claim, please contact me and I would be happy to help document the damage for you. Tomorrow will be a better day.
Extreme Makeover
Back in July while you were probably grilling some chicken and lighting firecrackers for the 4th, I rolled up my sleeves and took up a remodeling project at the studio. As you can see, it was a great space, but I guess the creative side got a hold of me and I was ready for a change or as Beyonce might say, “let me upgrade u”. Come see me sometime!
BEFORE (November 2005 – July 2008)

AFTER
A Star Is Born
This post is in celebration for my great friend, Julia Morales. In response to the press release below this video, she called upon the support of her loving friend (that would be me) to produce a compelling video that would surely get her this much deserved scholarship. I joked with her that if she didn’t get selected then I would give up video production all together. I knew the video was a hit and show ’nuff, she got it! Love ya Jules and good luck in NYC!
NBC Universal and The PIT Partner in Diversity Scholarship
May 2, 2008: As part of their new Talent Diversity Initiative, NBC Universal is proud to announce its Improv Scholarship Program in partnership with The Peoples Improv Theater (The PIT) in New York City to support and promote diversity within the arts.
NBC Universal and The PIT will each sponsor one student for The PIT’s entire year-long improv program, which takes students from Level 1 to Level 5, and is taught by some of comedy’s newest and greatest talents including Kurt Braunohler, Ptolemy Slocum, Rebekka Johnson and Ali Farahnakian.
“NBC is proud to join with the The PIT in sponsoring this vital scholarship that will encourage new voices within the minority community to learn valuable skills under the guidance of such an excellent program,” said Marc Hirschfeld, Executive Vice President, Casting, NBC Universal Television. “This involvement underscores NBC Universal’s continuing commitment to promote diversity.”
“I love the idea of working with NBC, it is the channel I grew up with,” said Ali Farahnakian, the owner and founder of The PIT, and former SNL writer. “To me NBC is television and the best it has to offer. To be in partnership with them in any way is an honor.”
“I am thrilled and honored that NBC has offered to sponsor a new and improved Improv Scholarship program here,” said Katie Goan, Managing Director of The PIT. “It’s exciting that more students will now be able to experience the joys of improv due to this promising partnership.”
All performers, particularly talented women and people of color with a strong desire to study improv, are eligible to apply. The candidate will submit an official Improv Scholarship application along with a five-minute DVD in which the candidate explains why he or she should be chosen and performs an original comedic work. The two scholarship recipients will be selected by The PIT and NBC Universal executives, and awarded in September.
